EDUC 4109

The course will explore diverse perspectives on education that shape current approaches to schooling. The foundations of educational theory and practice will be examined historically and philosophically as it developed in the Western tradition. Students will investigate post-colonial and critical pedagogy perspectives to better understand current trends and issues related to truth and reconciliation as it relates to schooling in Canada. The course will connect indigenous ways of knowing with future-oriented, transformative perspectives of education as understood through the development of the competencies of Education for Sustainability.
