Foundations of Social Work

Lec 0 selected

Foundations of Social Work provides an overview of historical and contemporary social work in Canada, as well as an introduction to the ideological, theoretical, and philosophical underpinnings that shape the profession today. It will emphasize various fields of practice, with special attention to services in a rural context, for Indigenous peoples, and for populations within marginalized communities. Understandings of the "helping field" and the reasons individuals choose social work will be explored. Developing self-awareness and examining the values, attitudes, beliefs, and lived experiences that individuals bring to the profession will be a key component of this course.
