Diversity & Oppression

Lec 1 selected

Diversity and Oppression introduces the history, theoretical frameworks, and practical knowledge required by social workers to understand and counter systemic oppression of Mi'kmaq peoples, African Nova Scotians, and other members of historically marginalized groups. Through a case study approach, historic and contemporary policies, practices, and events will be analyzed and critiqued from the interrelated perspectives of anti-oppression, social justice, and inclusion. Students will also explore their own values, attitudes, beliefs, knowledge, and experiences in relation to race, ethnicity, religion, culture, sexual orientation, gender identity, disabilities, geographic locales, and others as they work to develop their capacity for self-reflective practice.
