This course focuses on the management of knowledge and innovation in organizations. In this course, we will explain the role that knowledge plays in the economy today and why it is essential to view knowledge as part of an “organization’s stock of capital assets”. We will survey theory and research on knowledge and innovation as an outcome (product, service, technology, practice), as well as examine and discuss the process of development and implementation of knowledge assets and innovation in organizations. We will also discuss the basic structures and designs that underlie an effective information or knowledge management system. Emphasis will be on the engagement of management and leadership in knowledge and innovation processes, particularly at the macro (strategy) level.
