This course introduces the undergraduate pharmacy student to research skills through participation in a research or scholarly project in an area of pharmacy or health-related research that is of interest to the student. The student will work with a faculty supervisor on a project in areas such as pharmaceutical sciences, social, behavioural and administrative pharmacy, pharmacy practice, pharmacy educational research or program evaluation. Given the time allotted, it is reasonable that the student may participate in a specific part of the research process, for example, any one or more of the following: a review of the background literature, preparing a research ethics submission, identifying appropriate research methods, helping with data collection and/or data analysis, developing a decision aid for pharmacy practice etc. The expectation is, however, that the student will understand how their specific project fits within the supervisor’s larger research or scholarly project.
