PHIL 3106

Animal Ethics

Lec 01 selected

How should we treat the other animals with whom we share this planet? This question frames the issues explored in this course. Answering it will require examining some points of contact between our understanding of the minds of other animals and challenges or insights offered by central approaches in ethics. Topics will typically include how other animals should be treated in our homes, on our farms, in our zoos or aquaria, in our laboratories, and - among free-living (wild) populations - in their home territories. As the course focus has clear global social significance, that is typically reflected in the course source material.
