Psych Assessment and Diagnosis
This course is the first course in a two-part series and will introduce the student to basic skills required to conduct a psychiatric assessment, including clinical interviewing skills, mental status examination, and formulation, to arrive at a psychiatric diagnosis based on standardized diagnostic criteria (DSM-5/ICD-11). It will cover the most common psychiatric diagnostic groups in adults, including mood disorders, psychotic disorders, anxiety disorders, and PTSD and OCD, taught using a transcultural and global mental health perspective. There will be a variety of learning approaches, including lectures, large and small group work, self-directed learning, and simulation. Participants will be assessed through a variety of means, including short answer questions, assignment submissions, and participation in discussion board and live seminars. Feedback will be provided longitudinally.
