Lec 01 selected

This course offers a critical examination of Canadian social work's early development and history from the 17th to 21st centuries. The implications of colonization, industrialization, and urbanization driven by the colonial project are unpacked. Relations between European settlers and Indigenous first peoples as well as people of African descent, and Francophone peoples are situated as foundational for understanding how colonialism and ‘othering’ have shaped Western social work, concepts of helping, and the development of social policies and programs
