This course challenges students to critically examine the role community policing plays in society. Students examine the shortcomings of current policing strategies by analyzing these strategies using concepts such as sustainable crime reduction, evidence based crime prevention, fear management and the 'dark figure of crime'. Also, they study value-added policing services that support a transition towards a comprehensive, qualitative policing model. [Department(s): Justice Studies]
