MICR 3400

Microbial Diversity & Bioinfo

Lec 01 selected

In this course, students will examine microbial diversity and ecology across several ecosystems with an emphasis on the human microbiome and antibiotic producing soil microbes. The course will introduce key principles of diversity/ecology and introduce tools, including next generation sequencing, used to study complex microbial systems. The course will introduce and apply bioinformatic approaches to understand microbial diversity including through phylogenetic analyses, core and accessory genome comparisons, and functional annotations of genomes.
