HIST 4411
Loud and Proud: 2SLGBTQIA+ Histories in North America
Lec S10 selected
Students will explore histories of 2SLGBTQIA+ people in northern North America, from pre-colonial pasts to the 20th century. They will critically analyze the historical evolution of queer identities and the diverse breadth of queer experiences, paying particular attention to change across time and regional distinctions in Canada and the US. They will also compare and contrast how heteronormative policies of these settler states differently affected diverse groups of 2SLGBTQIA+ people, while simultaneously evaluating the queer resistance and resilience. Note: This is a seminar-based course.
