Fundamentals of Mental Health Nursing
Students will recognize the effects of mental health challenges and will assess the bio-psychosocial, environmental, spiritual, cultural and economic influences that affect mental health. They will apply mental health nursing concepts based on the lived experience of the individual. Students will develop a conceptual and experiential understanding of relational engagement and caring practice (including Indigenous wisdom) when working with older adults and people experiencing mental health challenges. They will enhance their awareness and understanding of the narratives, values, and intents influencing their relationships with clients and colleagues, and further develop their capacity for relational caring practices.
