Current Perspectives in Personality
Why does one person make a good leader and another a terrible one? Why can some people lie better than others? Why are certain people more susceptible to emotional experiences? This course introduces students to topics, debates, and trends which are currently being discussed in the field of personality psychology. Students critically evaluate readings, theories, and media reports, by engaging in discussions, small group work, lectures, peer presentations, and the application of personality assessment tools. The focus is on how these debates and issues apply to our everyday lives. Topics may include traits, assessing and measuring personality, self and identity, genetics and neuroscience, cognition and motivation, emotion and emotion regulation, deception, and leadership. Note: This is a seminar based course.
