CHEM 4103

Advanced Organic Chemistry: Synthesis

Lec 001 and Lab 501 selected

(3 Credits) 3 Blended, Lecture, Online hours, 4 Laboratory hours (formerly CHEM 3103) This course deals with the synthetic aspects of organic chemistry: oxidations, reductions, concerted reactions, stereoselectivity, synthetic equivalents, and protecting groups. The reaction types will then be used in planning efficient synthetic pathways towards important complex target molecules such as clinical drugs and natural products. The laboratory component will emphasize isolation, purification, and characterization of major and minor products from selected syntheses.
