(3 Credits) 3 Blended, Online, Lecture hours (formerly COMM 1700) By reporting truthful stories that matter and impact our lives, responsible journalism can unite communities with information to make sense of new developments and spur positive change, while helping to safeguard democratic processes. Meanwhile, the flood of unverified digital information – particularly on social media – brings increasing responsibilities: to find, reward and share news that is accurate, responsible and ethically reported. This course examines responsible journalism practice, and the ways citizens – including students – interact with various types of digital news.
