Community-centred Journalism
(3 Credits) 3 Lecture hours Journalists sometimes struggle to establish trust and rapport in their own communities. The course introduces students to community-centred journalism practice, which includes actively and ethically engaging community organizations, groups, and/or individuals using collaborative and trust-building approaches. Students will also use Solutions Journalism, an evidence-based practice, to report on community-based stories. The course immerses students in texts and discussions that require careful consideration of where trust, advocacy, objectivity, and solutions fit into contemporary journalism practice. Section information text: Department Approval required for students who have declared the minor. Major Restrictions will be removed no later than December 1, 2024.
