Lec 001 selected

(3 Credits) 3 Lecture hours This is a specialized course for students interested in expanding their knowledge of the sports and entertainment industry as a business and economic force. It will provide students with a framework for understanding the scope of the sports and entertainment business across the various leagues, the venues, the sponsors, the media companies, the agencies, the athletes and artists and their relationships to internal and external factors, and the marketing applications that drive this complex and growing multi-billion-dollar industry. The sports and entertainment business has become a persistent and integral part of our economy, specifically in the multi-media and entertainment arenas. The sports and entertainment business has grown significantly and is highly competitive for fans, airtime, media coverage and revenues, and sponsorship dollars. This has made managing events, venues, artists, and athletes, as well as the accountability of sponsorship and celebrity endorsement, a high priority with bottom-line relevance. Note: This highly experiential course is primarily taught in the offices and facilities of sports and entertainment organizations in downtown Calgary. If you choose to take a course at Mount Royal on the same day, you must leave sufficient travel time between locations. Section information text: This course is taught off campus. Please manage your schedule accordingly and ensure you allow at least 30 minutes before and after for travel.
