CLAS 1070
Lives of the Roman Emperors
Lec 001 selected
CLAS 1070 explores the ancient Roman imperial world through the lens of emperors’ lives. The course introduces students to the biographies of Rome’s emperors—both “depraved” ones, such as Nero and Commodus, and “wise” ones, such as Augustus and Trajan—while guiding a critical investigation into the meanings of the lives of the famous and the powerful in antiquity and beyond.
