Examines the intersections between Hip Hop and contemporaneous events in American history beginning with the emergence of Hip Hop through its transition to a commercial commodity. Students will learn about the wider historical contexts in which Hip Hop culture was produced and consumed considering such topics as activism, censorship, identity politics, and power.
