HIST 4002

Explores the pragmatic uses of writing in medieval Europe through the study of non-literary texts. The focus will be on the variety of situations in which individuals of diverse social backgrounds ? men and women, laypeople and clerics, aristocrats and townsfolk ? came into contact with writing.
