ART 292
ST: Woodcut Printmaking
Lec 20 and Lec 20 selected
The topic for 2026-2027 is Woodcut Printmaking. Woodcut is the oldest form of printmaking, and the medium has rich traditions in many cultures. In this course, students will learn the techniques, tools, and materials of woodcut, as well as how to design and draw an image that is well suited to the medium. Examples from historic and contemporary printmakers will be discussed for inspiration. Students will start by making a sampler print designed by the instructor, to learn the physical process of carving and printing. They will then design and produce their own single colour print, followed by a multicolour reductive print. Three credits.
