Lec 10 and Lec 10 selected

The topic for 2026-2027 is Food Culture in Britain. Food is both sustenance and culture. Britain’s food history includes technical change, cultural difference within Britain itself, and results from modern trade. Colonial contact contributed to the United Kingdom becoming a world power. Adopting goods such as sugar and black tea resulted in the very culinary traditions that came to reflect ‘British’ identity and character. This course will examine the history of British culinary culture, focusing on the period from 1750 through the 20C. Three credits.
