The topic for 2026-2027 is Feminist Technologies. What are the material histories that have helped shape today’s technologies? This course engages students in feminist, queer, and decolonial considerations of these lineages, exploring technologies like textile making, domestic design, and the voice before building towards rigorous critical engagement with algorithmic injustice, platform extractivism, and datafication. Bolstered by hands-on projects and digital crafts, we will explore how discourses of gender, race, ability, meritocracy, and belonging have shaped today’s tech, its implicit biases, utopic potential, and capacity for harm.
