Teacher Candidates will learn approaches for supporting middle school and junior level secondary students’ engagement and learning in English and Social Studies are introduced. They will develop pedagogical approaches and strategies consistent with constructivist philosophy and the nature of the humanities. Teacher candidates design lesson and unit plans that build literacy and inquiry skills; promote critical, historical, and creative thinking; connect with authentic texts, social issues, and historical contexts; and align with the British Columbia Ministry of Education curriculum. This course prepares teacher candidates for their first practicum.
