How and why does the discipline of English read, interpret, and analyze works of literature? Representative works in major literary genres will be used to illustrate the principles and methods of literary criticism and serve as examples for student writing. -- Prerequisite -- One of: (any two 100-level English courses numbered ENGL 105 or higher) or (B or better in ENGL 105). -- Corequisite -- None. -- Pre or Corequisite -- None.
