NURS 605
Pharmacological Management and Theraputic Interventions
This course provides students with core knowledge of pharmacology principles, which forms the scientific foundations of an understanding of drug therapies. This course emphasizes pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, mechanisms of action, adverse effects, drug interactions, and how these factors are considered in clinical practice. Students are introduced to the concepts of evidence-based medicine, drug coverage/drug access considerations, and antimicrobial stewardship. The knowledge included in this course is applied in later courses of the program to inform clinical decision-making about therapeutics and treatment monitoring to provide patient-centered care. Section information text: This course provides students with the most current advanced knowledge of pharmacology, including pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics. Students learn about evidence-based practice, including BCCNM limits and regulations, in the selection, prescription, and monitoring of drugs that are commonly used to treat diseases, disorders, conditions, and injuries. This course involves in-depth study of the mechanisms of drug interactions, therapeutic and adverse effects, and client education. Emphasis is on clinical decision-making, applied in case studies that span a variety of age groups and conditions.
