DSJS 3150
Prison Abolition
Lec 01 selected
This course examines the prison abolition movement and its challenge to envision a society free from carceral politics, surveillance, and control. By investigating prisons and policing alongside intersecting areas such as education, social work, immigration, and border politics, it explores how these work to reinforce ideas about gender, race, indigeneity, and other identities. The aim of this course is to re-imagine "what kinds of futures we want," and to rethink assumptions about harm and justice that underlie current systems of incarceration and control.
