Mass Transfer
The fundamental concepts of common separation processes and their role in chemical and process engineering are reviewed. The mass transfer of individual components in binary mixtures under unsteady-state and steady-state conditions in stationary media, as well as in laminar and turbulent flow regimes, is discussed, Various correlations for the estimation of mass transfer coefficients including related dimensionless numbers are introduced. Absorption systems and relevant design procedures for tray towers and packed columns are the other important components that will be covered. Additional topics include air–water contact operations such as humidification and drying, as well as membrane-based separation techniques, along with the mass transfer processes within these systems.
