This course offers introductory (elementary) level Chinese language instruction, and follows CHIN 114.3. This includes: Language Development (greetings, family, dates / times/ money, comparison, directions, celebration and situations); Pronunciation; Basic grammatical points and sentence structures; Reading and Writing (simple sentences from the text in the form of notes, short texts and emails); the Evolution of Chinese Characters and Culture component (holidays/festivals, beliefs, family relationships, Chinese mannerisms, foods, and Chinese calligraphy.
