CQ 602

Approaches to Cult. Analysis

Lec A selected

This seminar examines various concepts and methodologies of qualitative research and analysis. These include, but are not limited to: Discourse analysis, political economy, feminist perspectives, queer perspectives, visual analysis, Indigenous epistemologies, decolonial critiques, frameworks that center affect, emotions and care as methodological propositions, and ethnographic practice and the politics of representation. It explores issues arising from questions of positionality, reflexivity, ethics and responsibility, and writing. The course begins from the assumption that theory and method are inextricably linked, and that doing cultural analysis fully engages the researcher in (self-) reflection on the political-symbolic-expressive dimensions of social life.
