Politics in the European Union

Lec A selected

The “Trump shock” has reinforced Canada’s relationship with the European Union. Building on previous efforts, most notably the Canada-European Union Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), the federal government has recently taken steps to forge a new ambitious and comprehensive political, economic and defence partnership. But what is the European Union, and how does it work? The European Union has not only emerged as a major geopolitical actor over the past decades, but also profoundly transformed its member states. The course introduces students into key foundations of European governance and policy-making, with a particular emphasis on how this relates to Canada and Canadian politics.
