Introduction to Drama Therapy

Lec A selected

This course is an experiential studio course designed to introduce students to the art of drama therapy. Like an expressive arts therapy, drama therapy uses the processes that are naturally within the modality (in this case, theatre) and uses it for therapeutic gain. We will explore interventions from across the spectrum of fictional to non-fictional work, as well as the spectrum of process-oriented to performance based work. Students will immerse themselves in the practice of these techniques to gain embodied as well as cognitive knowledge of these techniques. No acting experience or skill is required for this course. This course is suitable for graduate students who are interested in integrating drama therapy techniques into their therapeutic or community work. This course is also suitable for students curious about drama therapy for their own personal reasons. <br>
