Building on previous courses in early literacy and numeracy, students delve deeper into the current theoretical and conceptual frameworks regarding play and its connections to literacy and numeracy development in the early elementary classroom. Areas of critical reflection include play-based pedagogical approaches, play across content areas, and connecting home and school literacies. Through active exploration, students will understand the nature and development of the play as they design curricular experiences through a play-based lens and further develop their knowledge of the educators' role in curriculum planning through a play-based lens in the early elementary classroom.
