Theory and analysis of popular music. Defined broadly, popular music to be studied in this course includes pop, rock, punk, metal, folk, grunge, rap, hip hop and selected musical theater and film repertoire. Building on MUAC221, topics include the trends in harmonic language since 1991, timbre as an agent of musical form, poetry analysis, and flow. Students will develop analytical writing skills, and the course will culminate in the presentation of an original analysis. <br>
